What really sucks about awesome sites that everyone is joining and you finally decide to join is that you are automatically labeled a "noob", and the moment you arrive, everyone either swarms you or ignores you. Don't get me wrong, the swarm can provide you with friends and the ignoration can help you focus on the actual "site", but after a while it gets annoying for every time you join a site you are either the swarmee or the ignoree, and maybe one time you want a break from the attention or you want to be left alone. Sadly, if you voice your "needs" of attention or solitude, people think you are mental and it back fires.
Me, personally, am a person people tend to ignore, but I don't really mind--after a few years, your used to it
